Lee Vincent is an emerging circus artist in Somerville, MA, developing her voice as an evocative storyteller through her unique blend of aerial hoop and dance. She weaves compelling narratives of adversity with a spirit of inquisitive introspection and playful exploration, captivating audiences with her open emotional portrayals and engaging performance style.
Lee tells stories with an unflinching eye to authenticity, seeking to balance intensity with approachability. She uses movement and music to help audiences see the dark comedy in tragedy and to deeply empathize with experiences that are far from their own.
She is a co-founder of Matter Darkly, a new circus theater company based in Somerville that aims to tell stories that matter using dark humor.
Matter Darkly is a group of circus and movement artists based in and around Somerville, MA, that aims to tell stories that matter with dark humor, compassion, and honesty. Working through the mediums of circus, theater, and dance, we strive to highlight the human challenges of the everyday through the juxtaposition of superhuman feats of circus, putting a new lens on the everyday trauma of life and showing the comedy hidden inside of tragedy.
While the pandemic has put the company's initial project, a darkly comedic exploration of the everyday human elements of living with breast cancer, on hold, the team continues to collaborate and create at a distance. We are exploring what circus looks like in a purely digital form and are focusing on stories about bodies, a common connection that we all have even in this time of physical disconnection.
